Museum & Heritage AV Installation

A museum only works when the visitor can hear the story and see the exhibit clearly, and the moment a display falls silent or a screen goes dark, the exhibit fails with it.

We at Acoustic Pixel understand that, which is why we start with the room and the collection rather than the kit list. As an audio visual installation company, we design, supply, install and support museum and heritage AV across every gallery and site, from the first survey to long-term support, with more than 200 projects delivered across the North of England and nationally.

What we deliver

Everything your galleries need, from one team.

Gallery and exhibition audio

Zoned, directional audio so one display does not bleed into the next, and every exhibit is heard as intended.

  • Commercial-grade speakers, placed discreetly
  • Independent zone-by-zone control

Projection and film

Interpretation on any surface, from a single film to immersive projection across walls and objects.

  • Single-screen or immersive projection
  • Calibrated for the space and the light

Digital signage and wayfinding

Orientation and what's-on screens across a large site, so visitors always know where they are.

  • Wayfinding and event signage
  • Updated centrally, no reprinting

Interactive and touchscreen exhibits

Displays that hold up to a school trip, built to survive constant public handling.

  • Touchscreens rated for continuous use
  • Content managed from one place

Centralised and multi-site control

One button opens the building, and every gallery starts and shuts down from a single place.

  • Scheduled or manual operation
  • Update or monitor any site

All from one in-house team

Design, supply, installation and support delivered by our own engineers, with nothing handed to a subcontractor.

The problems we solve

The exhibit goes quiet when the room fills up.

If any of these feel familiar, you are far from alone, and every one of them is avoidable.

  • Sound from one exhibit bleeding into the next, so neither can be understood.
  • A hard, echoing gallery where the narration is lost before it reaches the visitor.
  • Exhibits switched on one by one every morning, by whoever opens up.
  • A screen dark for a fortnight because nobody is sure who to call.
  • An install that stalled because nothing could be fixed to a protected wall.
Our approach

It starts with the building, and does not end at handover.

[ video ]
Built around your building, your collection and how visitors move.
  • Sound that respects the space.

Heritage interiors are hard and reverberant, so we contain sound within each exhibit, control spill, and treat the room where it works against you.

  • One accountable team, not a chain of suppliers.

The people who design your system install and support it. We do not subcontract, so nothing falls between hands and you always know who to call.

  • The same standard across every site.

One integrator and one specification, so every gallery behaves the same way and your team learns it once.

  • And we stay a call away.

A 12-month warranty as standard, one named point of contact, and remote monitoring where the system allows.

Multi-site and national reach

One standard, every site.

We are based in Middlesbrough and work right across the North of England, and we can deliver multi-site projects nationally. For trusts and groups with sites in more than one region, we design a single standard and roll it out everywhere, so every gallery looks, sounds and behaves the same, and you have one team and one point of contact for the whole estate.

[ confirm the regional and national multi-site claim before publishing. Only Middlesbrough is a confirmed premises, and no other location is implied ]

Museums & Heritage FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What is a gallery audio and video system?

A gallery audio and video system covers audio, projection and interactive exhibits under one design, so each exhibit sounds as intended and none bleeds into its neighbour. Zones run independently, and the whole building can be opened, scheduled and shut down from a single interface.

Can you install in a listed or historic building?

Yes. We survey the fabric first and design around it, using discreet routes, existing service voids and reversible fixings wherever possible, so the installation can be removed without leaving a mark. We work to whatever consent conditions apply on the building.

How much does a museum AV system cost?

It depends on the number of galleries, the acoustic condition of the rooms and how much interactive content you are running. A single gallery is a very different project to a whole site. We give broad bands at proposal stage and a fixed figure once we have surveyed, and we write proposals so they can be used inside a funding bid.

Can exhibits be controlled and scheduled centrally?

Yes. Everything can start and shut down from one interface, on a schedule or manually, so nobody walks the building switching exhibits on. Where you have more than one site, the same control can be reached remotely.

How long does installation take?

A single gallery is usually a matter of days. A full site or a multi-site rollout runs to weeks and is phased. We work around opening hours and closed days so the museum keeps trading.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Middlesbrough and work across the North of England, including Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle. For trusts and groups with sites in more than one region, we deliver nationally.

Get started

Let's start with a look at your space.

Whether it is a single gallery or a whole estate, a free AV assessment is the easiest first step, no obligation and no hard sell. We will see the space, understand how visitors move, and set out clear options.
